Going beyond the "with the media" approach |
What do we want to reach? |
How to use smartphones, tablets & Co. are important issues if we take into consideration that the media environment is rapidly changing and influencing our everyday life. Up to date knowledge about the technical diversity of these devices are essential, nevertheless not restricted to their practical use. Regardless of the type of the devices, by connecting the world wide web our action implies various behavioral patterns and thus affects our personal and professional life. It becomes all the more important that the young generation get adequate media education to be able to operate and apply different devices, to investigate and analyze information, to communicate and cooperate, to produce, present and reflect media content. But it has to be kept in mind too that teachers, trainers and parents as well are faced with these challenges. The innovative character of our project lies in the holistic approach considering not only the media literacy regarding the use of technical devices but also the critical thinking for „socialising and become active citizens“ (UNSECO 2013). |
The advantages of the world wide web are also one of the biggest challenges for creators, users and consumers of information.
There is a wide range of information about Media Education. Multilingual and comprehensive method collections for training different target groups are available on online platforms. We do not want to start from scratch but we want to use the synergies of these already existing materials and complement the online and offline offers with further materials. Within our work we target teachers, trainers on the one side and youth at the age 16+ on the other side. We will create attractive, innovative and age-appropriate teaching and training materials with relevant topics within the Media Education which can be used by the target group in classroom teaching complementary or supplementary to own teaching and training materials. At the second stage we will train teachers and trainers working with youth to feel comfortable with these materials once these are used in everyday teaching. |
